Why did Roblox remove tickets?

There's not really one reason for the removal, but I'll go through all the major reasons in this article.

Although I imagine a lot of people reading this probably think that it was entirely for Roblox's own profit, which it likely partly was, from my understanding of economics, a large part of the reason was because of the immense inflation that would've occurred if they hadn't.

At the time, roblox was expanding rapidly, with more and more players playing concurrently each day. In march of 2016, which was the month that they removed tickets, ROBLOX said on their blog, and I quote: that they had had a year-over-year monthly active user growth of 113%. Which was their highest user growth ever achieved.

But why does this matter? Well, in the days of tickets, every ROBLOX user received a daily bonus for logging into the site of 10 tix. With the ever increasing number of players on ROBLOX, more and more people were receiving a login bonus. If this was a real life example, that's the equivalent of printing a $10 note every day for every US citizen, but not removing any of the currency from circulation.

Possibly as a result of this, in 2009, the currency exchange rate for 1 Robuck was around 4 tix. But by 2012, the exchange rate for 1 robuck was at around 12 tix, that's a 300% increase in just 3 years.

Roblox at the time of the tix removal was expanding faster than ever before, and because of this, so was the amount of tix owned by all roblox users combined. If Roblox hadn't removed tix, it's likely that tickets would've lost their value almost entirely within just a few years.

Although tickets may seem like a pretty simple concept to a ROBLOX player who's been using the platform for a long time, it's an added confusion for any new players. Now that there are only ROBUX, the currency system is much easier to understand for everyone in general. With Roblox removing the price floor on T-Shirts, shirts and pants, there hasn't been much of an effect on the overall user experience.

A big problem that roblox specified on their blog post on the removal, was the use of alternative accounts to earn login bonuses, these accounts would then donate all of these tickets to one account, effectively giving them infinite free money. This was a major problem as there was no way for Roblox to regulate it, and they also decided that in future they will not be doing any kinds of reward using currency.
